Human Animals.
“Animals have shared this planet with human beings since the beginning of time”
As humans and animals are the only living creatures in this world and after researching, I found it particularly weird but interesting that scientists combined human and animal egg cells for experimentation, they were only allowed to keep them alive for 14 days as it is against human rights.
I thought that it would be captivating if these ‘creatures’ were actually real and existed in our world. So in order of the brief, I have illustrated and collaged prototypes of what these ‘human animals’ could look like by putting together human and animal parts.
I then thought of ways in which I could represent the collages by making a statement alongside the collages. The statement was “THE BIRTH OF THE HUMAN ANIMALS” and a second point “This is what our new world could look like, if human animals were accepted in to our society.”
My intention was to question the audience at first, but then I wanted it to be more of a statement, that these could be accepted in to our society if it was legal.
I made several final pieces, as I liked trying our new ways of representing my statement and prototypes. I made two book publications, one is sewn together with ‘laid white’ paper giving the publication a more professional look and the other is printed on tracing paper which I thought looked quite interesting as you could see several layers behind the first image which would make the viewer/reader want to look further into these prototypes.
I also wanted to try something different by making more of a statement, making the final pieces big and bold. In order of doing this, I brought nine frames that I put my collages and statement in and made a world shape with the frames. This represents ‘togetherness’ and ‘the new world’.
